Small Solid-State Drive for Handheld Devices
Intel Corp. announced its Z-P140 PATA solid-state drives (SSD) for handheld mobile devices. Smaller than a penny and weighing less than a drop of water, these 2 GB and 4 GB ultra-small devices are fast, low-power and rugged with the size, capacity and performance for mobile Internet devices, digital entertainment and embedded products. The line has an industry standard parallel ATA (PATA) interface, and it is optimized to enhance proprietary computers. The drives offer read speeds of 40 MB/s and write speeds of 30 MB/s. Critical to mobile applications, its active power usage is 300 mW and 1.1 mW in sleep mode, helping to extend battery life.
