PATA 1.8' Solid State Drive Boasts Low Power Consumption
SMART Modular Technologies announced its XceedLite parallel ATA (PATA) solid state drive (SSD). Operating from +3.3V DC to +5V DC, the drive typically draws 80 mA current in read, 70 mA in write, and 9 mA in passive mode. It is suited for use in growth markets such as tablet PCs, ruggedized notebooks, embedded computing, industrial applications, and medical equipment in which battery life, durability and reliability are critical. The drive supports 8-bit or 16-bit data register transfers, and up to programmed input/output (PIO) Mode 6, Multi-Word direct memory access (DMA) Mode 4, and Ultra DMA Mode 5. It is also available without its 70.60 mm x 53.60 mm x 2.59 mm enclosure. Prices start at $100 for 4GB and up to $500 for 32GB in OEM quantities.
