Low-Noise, High-Accuracy Digital-Analog Converter
Texas Instruments Inc. introduced a 16-bit, single-channel, buffered voltage-output digital-to-analog converter with linearity (1 LSB max INL), low noise (24 nV/rtHz), and fast settling time (5.0 uS). Combined with low power consumption (5mW), the DAC8881 is an option for industrial process control, automatic test equipment, data acquisition systems, and communications applications. It operates from a single +2.7V to +5.5V power supply and gives a unipolar output. The output voltage is based on the reference voltage selected and ranges from 1.25V to 5.5V. By using an external operational amplifier for offset, the device can also provide a bipolar output with two’s complement coding. It also supports a serial interface capable of input data clock frequencies up to 50 MHz with 1.8V/3V/5V logic to communicate with a wide range of DSPs, FPGAs and microprocessors. The device operates in a temperature range of -40C to 105C. The converters are contained in a QFN-24 (4 mm2) size. They cost $10 each in 100-piece quantities. Evaluation modules will be available in 1Q 2008.
