Integrated DC/DC Regulators Reduce Silicon Footprint
International Rectifier introduced the SupIRBuck family of wide input, single output synchronous buck voltage regulators for high density, high performance data center applications. The family of point-of-load (POL) voltage regulators integrates the synchronous buck control ICs and HEXFET trench technology MOSFETs in a 5 mm × 6 mm Power QFN package. Designed for 4A, 7A and 12A of output load current at 600 kHz switching frequency, the IR38xx operates from an input voltage range of between 2.5V to 21V, and provides output voltage as low as 0.6V. Common features include pre-bias start up, fixed 600 kHz switching frequency, hiccup current limit, thermal shutdown, and precise output voltage regulation. Optional features include tracking, programmable power good, and 300 kHz switching frequency to provide an additional two amps of output current capability. The family’s thermally enhanced package with slim 0.9 mm profile, allows mounting on the backside of the motherboard, making the devices are suitable for space constrained, high density server applications. Pricing for the IR38xx devices begins at $2.25 each in 10,000-unit quantities.
