Power Switch Increases Efficiency in Half-bridge Resonant Converters up to 450W

e_arrows.jpgGreen FPS Power Switch Simplifies Design and Increases Efficiency up to 97 Percent in Half-bridge Resonant Converters up to 450W - FairchildFairchild Semiconductor’s highly integrated Green FPS power switch, the FSFR2100, increases power efficiency and system reliability, and reduces design time in resonant converter designs such as telecom power, high end audio amplifiers, large size laser printers and LCD and PDP TV power supplies. The IC features a zero voltage switching (ZVS) technique that reduces switching losses in MOSFETs and rectifiers. With this technique, this switch can handle up to 200W without a heat sink and up to 450W with a heat sink. Compared to conventional hard-switch converter topologies, efficiency is improved by 10 percent and for applications such as PDP-TVs, efficiency reaches 97 percent. An additional advantage of this technique is that switching noise is  reduced by at least 5dB compared to hard switching techniques. Offering burst operation function, the IC brings standby power consumption below 1W.
