Morgan Advanced Ceramics (MAC) announced its dry-pressed alumina ceramic balls for use in harsh environments. These rolling, spherical components are suitable for mechanical devices that provide rotary or linear motion such as check and ball valves and bearings. The ceramic balls can be used in the electrical, environmental, chemical, material processing and automotive industries. According to the company, advantages over comparable steel products for harsh environments include that alumina is resistant to high temperatures as well as most corrosive substances, they are stiffer, lighter, smoother, harder and more electrically resistant. The ceramic balls provide low thermal conductivity and heat absorption, allowing for lower cooling requirements, and they are resistant to wear and abrasion.
