Power Efficient Processor Comes to Signal and Imaging Processing
Mercury and P.A. Semi are collaborating to deploy P.A. Semi’s dual-core PA6T-1682M PWRficient processor on Mercury’s military and industrial systems for high-performance signal and image processing applications. The PWRficient processor is said to achieve a 300 percent improvement in performance per Watt, enabling multiprocessor solutions for applications with constraints on size, weight, and power. The PWRficient is being designed into Mercury's next-generation products in all four PowerStream product lines across multiple form factors including 6U VXS, 3U and 6U VPX-REDI, and larger form-factor systems. Mercury is also making available an early development board in the VXS form factor with PMC/XMC I/O for application developers. The VS6-120EV P.A. Semi Dual-Core PPC Evaluation Module is an air-cooled multicomputer building block based on the VXS (VITA 41) standard. Designed specifically for application developers who want to characterize the performance of the PWRficient PA6T-1682M processor from P.A. Semi, the module delivers high-bandwidth communications and I/O to feed the high-speed processor. This early evaluation board is not intended for standard product development or deployed applications. Users of this board can characterize the P.A. Semi and I/O infrastructure.
