Mercury and P.A. Semi are collaborating to deploy P.A. Semi’s dual-core PA6T-1682M PWRficient processor on Mercury’s military and industrial systems for high-performance signal and image processing applications. The PWRficient processor is said to achieve a 300 percent improvement in performance per Watt, enabling multiprocessor solutions for applications with constraints on size, weight, and power.

MEN Micro Inc. introduces its single board computer that uses Freescale's MPC8548, providing up to 1.5 GHz of processing power. Using Altera's CycloneT II FPGA, this EM9 is a universal computer core for embedded systems in harsh industrial environments, and it provides individual I/O for each application through IP cores. Applications include industrial control and safety or network systems as well as machine control, human-machine interfaces or embedded terminals.

High Performance USB Modules

Measurement Computing Corporation releases two high-speed USB-based DAQ modules, the USB-1608HS and the USB-1608HS-2AO. These modules provide simultaneous data capture of up to eight channels of 16-bit single ended or differential analog input at 250 kHz per channel. Both units include 16 bits of digital I/O and an extensive suite of software. The USB-1608HS-2AO has an additional two channels of 16-bit analog output with a range of -10 to +10 volts.

Toshiba Corp. launches of a 4 GB microSDHC card, expanded its line of small-format, high-speed, high-capacity memory cards for mobile phone applications. This card meets SD memory card standard Ver. 2.003, the standard for high density SD products with a capacity of over 2 GB.
