Serial EEPROMs Boast Single I/O Bus

Ecnmag.com - May 05, 2008

UNI/O EEPROMBased upon the patent-pending UNI/O memory-device protocol, a 10-member family of serial EEPROM devices from Microchip have a single I/O bus interface and are presented as the first devices that can support any data rate from 10 to 100 kHz and the only 1-, 2-, 4-, 8-, and 16-kbit EEPROMs available in a 3-pin SOT-23 package. Since only one I/O port is needed for communication between the EEPROM device and the microcontroller, a smaller MCU can be used, reducing the overall design. Evaluation is simplified because the UNI/O memory devices are also available in 8-pin packages with pin-outs that overlay any standard I²C or SPI EEPROM socket.
