Boost Regulator Offers Output Disconnect
Delivering output voltages as high as 5.250 V from an input voltage range of 0.700 V at start-up (0.500 V when running) to 5 V, Linear Technology’s LTC3539/-2 boost regulator with output disconnect can send up to 900 mA of continuous output current (at 3.300 V) from dual alkaline cells or 900 mA of continuous output current (at 5 V) from a single-cell Li-Ion battery with internal switches with an RDS(ON) of only 0.090 O (N-Channel) and 0.125 O (P-Channel). The device allows the output to be completely discharged in shutdown, which minimizes surge currents seen by the input supply, and regulates the output voltage when the input voltage exceeds the output voltage. Able to be set via an external pin to operate in a continuous frequency mode, the 2 x 3-mm DFN-8 packaged boost regulator has a constant switching frequency of 2 MHz with an operating efficiency as high as 94%. Burst Mode operation lowers quiescent current to 10 uA with additional features such as anti-ringing control, short-circuit protection, soft-start, thermal protection. Pricing starts at $2.50 each.
