DC/DC Converters Enable Engineers to Scale from Low to High Power During Design

48V DCDC converterMurata Electronics North America introduced the new MPD7D06*S 48V input isolated DC/DC converter series. The device allows engineers to scale from low to high power and vice-versa in the design stage. This scalability is enabled by the MPD7D06*S's parallel operation feature and footprint compatibility with the company's 10W MPD6D10*S Series and the 15W MPD6D11*S Series DC/DC converters. Scaling up in power for up to 10 devices, this 35W DC/DC converter can current-share up to 350W. The engineer can switch in Murata's 10W or 15W DC/DC devices without board layout changes. Further, the size (40.05 mm × 31.15 mm × 8.0 mm max.) in an SMT package gives engineers layout options such as front-and-back board mounting to save board space. No optical couplers are needed, and integrated input and output capacitors enhance EMI filtering. Start-up times are synchronized with other modules by connecting the devices'parallel operation pins. The converter also uses a planar transformer via the multi-layer printed circuit board to permit thin and stable coil quality. The MPD7D06*S series is offered at $22.00 (in volume quantities).
