Ultra-Low-Jitter Clock Generators Provide High-Frequency Timing
Maxim Integrated Products introduced the MAX3624 and MAX3625 high-performance, quad/triple-output clock generators for network equipment. These devices use a low-noise VCO and PLL architecture to generate a high-frequency, ultra-low-jitter (0.36 psRMS) clock signal from a low-frequency crystal resonator or reference clock input. They help to reduce space requirements by only requiring an external, packaged, AT-cut fundamental crystal. Space can also be reduced by using the generators' four outputs from two divider banks -- one provides two LVPECL outputs up to 320MHz; the other bank LVPECL up to 320MHz plus one LVCMOS up to 160MHz. The MAX3625 provides three outputs from two output divider banks: one provides two LVPECL up to 320MHz; the other has one LVPECL output up to 320MHz. The output dividers are programmable so designers can set outputs to the required frequencies. The generators also provide -57 dBc power supply noise rejection. The MAX3624 starts at $17.14 and the MAX3625 starts at $9.20, both in volume.
