Handheld enclosures are biodegradable
OKW's SOFT-CASE Series of handheld enclosures is now available from stock molded in BIOGRADE bioplastic material. For most applications this bioplastic material can be used instead of the fossil plastics, such as ABS, which were used until now. This CO2-neutral material is technically compostable and biodegradable, and has similar mechanical and physical properties to ABS. On demand, the company can also mold many of its other enclosure lines in this material. As a result, design engineers can now ensure the green credentials of their electronics by using these off-the-shelf biodegradable housings. The bioplastic SOFT-CASE enclosures are available in four standard sizes with external dimensions from 2.00” x 3.23” x 0.55” to 3.62” x 5.90” x 1.10”. The standard color is off-white, RAL 9002. Uniquely for handheld enclosures, the design is suitable for wide format displays and keypads. The top of the enclosure has a wide recessed area for locating an LCD or membrane keypad, and a raised panel on the long edge can be used for mounting USB, power or serial connectors and controls. The three larger size cases are available with battery compartments for fitting 1.5V AAA, 1.5V AA or 9V cells. Screw pillars are provided inside the top and base parts for fitting PCBs. The cases are assembled by four self-tapping screws.
