OR’ing Controller Chip Ensures Cooler Running

oring controller chipDiodes Incorporated introduced its ZXGD3102 active OR’ing controller chip that enables shared power system designers to replace heat-dissipating blocking diodes with high-efficiency MOSFETs. This is said to ensure cooler running, lower maintenance and higher reliability in up-time-critical telecom, server and mainframe applications. The ZXGD3102 is specifically designed to control MOSFETs in high-reliability, N+1 redundant power systems. The ZXGD3102 has an input voltage blocking capacity of 180 V. Sinking a peak turn-off current of 5 A, the gate drive is able to achieve a typical MOSFET turn-off time of 160 ns. This ensures the rapid load protection required to eliminate any variation in bus voltage during power supply failures and hot-swapping. Housed in the compact SM8 package, the chip requires a minimal external component count, and uses a 5 V to 15 V low current bias rail, derived from a miniature zener diode. The ZXGD3102 active OR’ing controller chip is priced at $ 0.98 USD at 1,000 quantities.
