Light-to-Digital Converter Performs Light/Proximity Sensing
Incorporating an IR SSLD and an I²C/SMBus interface, Intersil’s ISL29015 ambient and infrared light-to-digital converter executes ambient light and infrared sensing. The 2-mm × 2.100-mm 6-lead ODFN-packaged component uses an internal 16-bit ADC with adjustable conversion time from 25 ìs to 100 ms and flicker noise rejection of 50 Hz and 60 Hz. For proximity sensing, the device offers ambient IR cancellation under direct sunlight, adjustable current drive from 100 mA to 12.5 mA, programmable LED current modulation frequency, and up to 16-bits of variable conversion resolution in a range from 850 nm to 950 nm. For ambient light sensing, the unit exhibits output code directly proportional to the lux, adjustable sensitivity of up to 65 counts per lux, and selectable LUX from 0.015 lux to 64,000 lux. The RoHS-compliant component presents max. operating current of 90 µA and max. shutdown current of 1 µA.
