Chipscale USB Power Manager Includes 1A Regulator

Able to manage multiple input sources such as a wall adapter or USB port and the Lithium battery while preferentially providing power to the system load, the LTC3566 from Linear Technology targets power management in Li-Ion/Polymer battery applications. The 4 mm² QFN-packaged device accepts an input of up to 5.5V (7V transient) and integrates a switching PowerPath manager, a stand-alone battery charger, a 1A high efficiency synchronous buck-boost regulator, an ideal diode and controller, and an always-on LDO to deliver up to 700 mA from a USB port and up to 1.5A from an external wall adaptor. Operating at an efficiency as high as 94 percent, the USB power manager has a 2.25 MHz switching frequency with a suspend current of 38 µA, a quiescent current of 20 µA,  and a draw of less than 1 µA in shutdown mode. Pricing starts at $3.85 each for 1,000 piece quantities.
