Red Laser Diode Offers High Optical Output of 150 mW at 640 nm
Mitsubishi Electric completed development of the ML520G51 red laser diode with an optical output standard of 150 mW at 640 nm. It is intended for use in mobile projectors, laser show devices as well as in other applications in the industrial and medical environment. This red laser diode appears bright to the human eye and is capable of emitting deep reds in the 640 nm range. Furthermore, owing to the structure and manufacturing process of the laser diode, the company designed the ML520G51 in a way that it can operate at wall-plug efficiency of 23 percent. According to the company, the high wall plug efficiency will reduce device power consumption but it may also prolong the time of operation with one load of batteries in mobile devices. Due to its low thermal output power this laser diode is integrated in a small hermetically sealed 5.6 mm-diameter TO-Can package. The part also features an emitter size of 40 µm and a beam divergence (FWHM) of 7° (parallel) or, respectively, 40° (perpendicular).
