LDO Controller Offers Adjustable and Fixed 1.2V and 1.5V Output Voltages
Vishay Intertechnology released an LDO controller with adjustable and fixed output voltage options that uses external n-channel MOSFETs to provide extremely low drop-out voltages of under 50 mV at very high currents, up to 7A, with, according to the company, 80 percent efficiency. The SiP21301 device is designed for driving n-channel MOSFETs to power FPGAs, ASICs, and ASSPs in game consoles, set-top boxes, LCD televisions and networking equipment. Because it works with an external n-channel MOSFET with a separate supply voltage, the controller allows designers to choose the FET with the on-resistance, drop-out voltage, output current, and power dissipation ratings that best suit their applications, operating from 2.5V down to 0.65V at up to 7A. The SiP21301 features programmable inrush current protection on start-up, short-circuit protection, thermal shutdown, and undervoltage lockouts for safe operation of the IC and the external MOSFET. The controller offers an adjustable output voltage, as well as fixed 1.2V and 1.5V output voltage options. The device provides a low operating current, a low standby current, and a 1 percent output voltage accuracy. Pricing for U.S. delivery in 1,000-piece quantities is $0.34 per piece.
