EA licenses 'Need for Speed' game for movie
"Need for Speed," the popular car racing game series from Electronic Arts Inc., is becoming a DreamWorks movie.
EA and DreamWorks said Friday that the game series has been turned into a screenplay, though the story is not based on any individual game. EA will produce the movie, along with John Gatins, whose brother George wrote the screenplay, and Mark Sourian. Scott Waugh, the director of "Act of Valor," is set to direct.
Production is scheduled to begin early next year for 2014 release.
Shares of Electronic Arts Inc. rose 11 cents to $12.11 in late morning trading Friday, bouncing back from a 52-week low a day earlier.
