In a disappointing blow for the U.S. Air Force, an aircraft designed to fly at six times the speed of sound broke apart only seconds into a test flight. The Air Force cited a faulty control fin as the cause.

Astronomers observed gravitational waves at optical wavelengths from a pair of eclipsing white dwarf stars. As gravitational waves are notoriously hard to see, the sighting was exciting for the astronomy community.
