Lowering the cost of healthcare from a design perspective
There are two advances (among many) that will lower healthcare costs in the future. The growing ubiquity of high speed connectivity will allow for remote telemetry and monitoring of patients. Advanced sensors will allow doctors to keep track of patients well being without them venturing to the doctor's office. If they do need to come in all the basic tests will be completed, reducing time to treatment.
The vital information gathered leading to the visit will allow the medical team to better prioritize patients leading to more efficient care and plan treatments before the patient sets foot into the hospital. This access to information will allow us to better manage our own care as well. Rather than the simple "symptom diagnostic" apps that are prevalent today, we will be able to get a better understanding of health based on our unique medical history and vital information.
This will ultimately lead to fewer visits to the hospital and better preventative care where we each take more responsibility for own health with the information to make informed decisions. The combination of high speed information combined with advanced sensors will lead to more efficiency, less waste and more productivity of precious medical resources.
