Photos of the Day: Elon Musk's Hyperloop transport
Elon Musk originally envisioned the Hyperloop as a tube transport system capable of shooting passengers from San Francisco to L.A. in 35 minutes. And now, according to CBS, the infrastructure behind it is finally overcoming funding roadblocks and beginning construction.
The Hyperloop will be able to go 760 miles per hour, and according to an interview Musk had with Businessweek in September 2012, “What you want is something that never crashes, that's at least twice as fast as a plane, that's solar powered and that leaves right when you arrive, so there is no waiting for a specific departure time.”
Like something straight from Science Fiction, the Hyperloop would be near-supersonic, solar-powered, and one thousandth the normal atmospheric pressure at sea level.
