Ding appointed Barnes Professor

Dr. M. Katherine Banks, vice chancellor and dean of engineering, has appointed Dr. Yu Ding holder of the Mike and Sugar Barnes Professorship at Texas A&M University.

Ding is a professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. He joined the Texas A&M engineering faculty in 2001 as assistant professor. His research interests are in systems informatics, quality/reliability engineering, and wind energy and nano-imaging and nano-informatics.

Among his awards are the CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation in 2004, best paper awards from the ASME Manufacturing Engineering Division in 2000 and IIE Transactions in 2006, and being named a Montague Center for Teaching Excellence Scholar at Texas A&M in 2005.

Ding earned a bachelor's degree in precision engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China, master's degrees from Tsinghua University in China and the Pennsylvania State University, and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan.
