Aggie astronaut Fossum to speak Wednesday
Aggie astronuat Mike Fossum, a 1980 mechanical engineering graduate, will speak to incoming freshmen and transfer students in the Dwight Look College of Engineering tomorrow (Aug. 21).
Fossum is speaking as a part of the Engineering New Student Welcome. His presentation will be at 5:15 p.m. in Room 102 of the Zachry Engineering Center and is open to the public.
A veteran of three space flights, Fossum has logged more than 194 days in space, including more than 48 hours of extravehicular activity in seven spacewalks. Fossum’s space flight experience includes shuttle mission STS-121 in 2006, which was a return-to-flight test mission and assembly flight to the International Space Station, and STS-124 aboard Discovery in 2008, which was the 123rd space shuttle flight and the 26th shuttle flight to the space station. He was the commander of Expedition 29 in 2011.
Fossum began his career at NASA in 1993 as a system engineer and was selected as an astronaut candidate in 1998.
