(Kyodo) — NEC Corp. has sold a liquid crystal display panel patent to Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. for 9.45 billion yen, NEC officials said. One of the officials said NEC has decided to secure revenues by selling the patent for displays of personal computers and mobile phones, rather than keeping it.

Hon Hai produces smartphones and other consumer appliances for companies including Apple, Inc. and is expected to utilize the patent for its production of smartphones and LCD televisions. Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou told reporters in August when he visited NEC's headquarters in Tokyo that the two companies have agreed on the patent transaction deal.
