Zynga buys game company A Bit Lucky

Zynga Inc. has bought A Bit Lucky, a developer of online games focused on "mid-core" titles that are a bit more serious than the light-hearted "-Ville" titles Zynga is best known for.

San Francisco-based Zynga, whose own games include "FarmVille" and the Scrabble-like "Words With Friends," did not disclose financial terms.

Buying A Bit Lucky is a way for Zynga to diversify the types of games it offers. Its titles include the now-defunct "Lucky Space," a Facebook game where players ran a virtual space colony. A Bit Lucky shut down that game, and its only other title, "Lucky Train," to work on its next game, "Solstice Arena."

The 20-some employees of A Bit Lucky will join Zynga.

The acquisition comes at a difficult time for Zynga's stock, which has lost about 70 percent of its value since going public late last year. It closed down 10 cents, or 3 percent, at $3.08 on Monday.
