The second annual “Closer to Free” bike ride to support Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven and Yale Cancer Center will be launched on Friday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. on the New Haven Green.

As part of the event, the BoDeans will perform a concert that will include their hit song “Closer to Free.” The song is the theme and inspiration behind the advertising campaign for Smilow Cancer Hospital, the Closer to Free fund, and the annual Closer to Free bike ride.

The Closer to Free Ride is produced by the Yale-New Haven Hospital Office of Development and is the primary fundraising and awareness event for Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven. Funds raised by the ride will directly support patient care and research at Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center. Last year’s inaugural ride raised more than $400,000.
