James Matthews of Corning Incorporated Receives Industry Award

Atlanta, GA – The Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA) is proud to announce that a member of its Board of Directors, James E. Matthews, III, Director, Technical Standards and Standards Policy, Corning Incorporated was recently presented with the Astin-Polk International Standards Medal. This award, presented at the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Annual Awards Banquet, October 12, 2011, honors distinguished service in promoting trade and understanding among nations through personal participation in the advancement, development, or administration of international standardization, measurements, or certification.

Matthews is a dedicated leader committed to the development and promotion of consensus-based, globally accepted international standards. As the immediate past president of the US National Committee (USNC) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) from 2006 to 2010, he represented the interests of the US electrotechnical community in the IEC Council and Council Board, its primary management bodies, and in regional standardization bodies. In his long history with IEC he has held several key leadership positions. Mr. Matthews has been a dedicated leader in ANSI activities for a number of years, and currently serves as co-chair of the recently launched ANSI Electric Vehicle Standards Panel. In addition, he is a member of the ECIA Board of Directors and serves as liaison to the Strategic Council for Standards & Guidelines.
