Gou is part of the Ecohydrology Research Group in the civil engineering department’s Environmental and Water Resources Engineering Division. Her advisor is Dr. Gretchen Miller.

Gou earned a B.S. in irrigation engineering from the China Agricultural University in 2007 and an M.S. in hydrology and water resources engineering from the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research in 2010. She conducts research in the area of plant-groundwater interactions.

Recognizing the link between science, technology, and socio-economic development, as well as the key role of education in realizing individual potential, the Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future program is awarding fellowships and supporting women academics in science and engineering from developing and emerging countries for their advanced graduate study at top universities abroad.

The fellowship is for one year of tuition, fees and a stipend, and is renewable for subsequent years. In 2011, there were 631 applications submitted, with 53 new grants offered and 45 renewed.
