Lawrence appointed Bruce Chair
Dr. G. Kemble Bennett, vice chancellor and dean of engineering, has appointed Dr. Barry Lawrence to the Leonard and Valerie Bruce Endowed Chair in Industrial Distribution.
Lawrence is director of the Industrial Distribution Program and director of the Global Supply Chain Lab (GSCL) in the Department of Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution at Texas A&M University. The GSCL conducts applied research and professional development programs. The lab operates in Mexico with an office in Monterrey and is expanding in other Latin American countries.
Lawrence also directs the Thomas and Joan Read Center for Distribution Research and Education, a research center in the Texas Engineering Experiment Station (TEES).
Lawrence earned his Ph.D. in information and operations management from Texas A&M. His areas of expertise are in supply chain management; inventory management; asset optimization; optimizing profitability; sales and marketing optimization; distributor growth and market share; and pricing optimization. He also conducts research on return-on-investment and best practices in global supply chain operations. .
A Fellow of the NAW Institute for Distribution Excellence, the long-range research arm of the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW), Lawrence is the lead author of the NAW Institute 2009 book Optimizing Distributor Profitability: Best Practices to a Stronger Bottom Line. He also represents Texas A&M in its partnership with the NAW Institute in the establishment of the Council for Research on Distributor Best Practices.
