Enghouse Systems Ltd. increased its quarterly dividend by a penny to four cents per share Monday as it reported its first-quarter profit more than doubled compared with a year ago.

The business software company (TSX:ESL) said it earned $1.9 million or eight cents per share for the three months ended Jan. 31 compared with a profit of $794,000 or three cents per share in the same quarter a year earlier.

Revenue of the quarter totalled $19.5 million, up from $18.2 million.

Shares in the company, which reported its results after the close of markets, were up seven cents at $8 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
