Yelp is a great resource for finding local restaurants in unfamiliar surroundings. But an app that pinpoints the closest restroom? That’s a new one.
Airpnp promises just that — a quick and easy way to find the nearest John. Like Fandango, you enter your location, but instead of mapping out the closest movie theaters, Airpnp provides a detailed overview of the surrounding restrooms.
The premise sounds a bit sketchy, but I’ll say this — the need to find a bathroom (when the need arises) is far more urgent than any other location-based service. When you gotta go, you gotta go — and quick.
The app provides detailed information on each loo, including prospective costs. (This might seem crazy to mainstream America, but not so in Europe or Manhattan, where public restrooms are a scarce commodity — paying one Euro to use a bathroom in Germany was a culture shock to yours truly)
And for enterprising individuals, the app allows you to list your own porcelain sanctuary, complete with photos, descriptions, hours of operation, and pricing. No, seriously, Airpnp allows you to start your own lavatory rental business.
But then, the company’s actual tagline is “pee all you can pee with Airpnp” (and their Twitter handle — @leakeasy — is borderline genius), so nothing about the app surprises me.
