You may have seen the viral video making its rounds — the mythical entity otherwise known as the Grim Reaper, the personification of Death, flies around, scaring the s*** out of unwitting bystanders. Is the Apocalypse nigh at hand? Is the Angel of Death here to claim human souls? Well, not quite....

Turns out the angelic specter is the work of Internet prankster Tom Mabe, who used a hexacopter — i.e., six blades — and a fishing line to tow the “Grim Reaper”. Mabe first experimented with a quadcopter, but Death was too heavy for the ubiquitous drone.

So Mabe enlisted the help of Will Robbins, who specializes in aerial videography, and Robbins suggested the hexacopter. That plus some fishing line and a bunch of unsuspecting joggers, walkers, and pedestrians makes for one of the best pranks I’ve ever seen.
