Congress Supports Energy RD

Thu, 08/02/2007 - 11:21am

darpaEnergy News: The U.S. Department of Defense's ARPA -- Advanced Research Projects Agency -- is a hugely successful organization, most famous in academic and civilian circles for funding the original Internet research (no, it wasn't made by Al Gore.)  Now Congress hopes to copy that success with a new organization called ARPA-E, the "E" denoting energy.  Funding of $300 million for this group begins in October.  As explained in Computerworld, "The intent of ARPA-E is to 'to look for high-risk, high-rewards type of technology; if we're really going to become energy independent, it's going to take a bump in technology, so this may be the most important energy bill that we will pass,' said Rep. Bart Gordon (D-Tenn.), chair of the House Science and Technology Committee" -- and that sounds good to we dwellers of The Efficiency Zone.
