What is your opinion on the incandescent ban?
The new USB 3.0 – or “SuperSpeed USB” – protocol was developed to provide higher transfer rates, increased maximum bus power and device current draw, and new power management features, as well as new cables and connectors that are backward-compatible with USB 2.0 devices.
Integrating the maximum number of functions plus power management into the main chipset for portable, battery powered devices such as mobile phones with capability such as MP3, Mpeg4, and TV, would seem to be critical if an acceptable length of battery life is to be achieved.
The power MOSFET transistor, along with the decades of continuing device design optimization, has enabled new circuit topologies and improvements in power supply efficiency. The conversion from current-driven to voltage-driven power devices resulted in a rapid market adoption of these devices.
In the industrial environment, touch panels, or touchscreens, facilitate operator input in a very simple, yet reliable, way. As touch input-based handheld and mobile devices enter more industrial applications – such as portable flow controls and handheld terminals for field testing – companies need to protect and extend their investment.
Many general-purpose signal processors are acceptable for industrial applications based on their computing performance and baseline connectivity features. However, there are important peripheral enhancements that can significantly upgrade the processor’s capabilities for more demanding industrial systems.
Holidays in New York City are beautiful. The lights, the people, the excitement. However, Christmastime in the city is also a constant reminder that you have gifts to buy for people, regardless of your particular secular rationale. For the style-conscious, the E Ink Digital Calendar Watch from Phosphor is both attractive and cutting-edge...
A 32-year-old California man has pleaded guilty to charges that he sold thousands of counterfeit chips to the U.S. Navy. In a plea agreement reached on Friday, Neil Felahy of Newport Coast, California, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and counterfeit-goods trafficking for his role in an alleged chip-counterfeiting scam that ran between 2007 and 2009. Felahy, his wife Marwah Felahy, and her brother Mustafa Abdul Aljaff operated several microchip brokerage companies that imported chips from Shenzhen, in China's Guangdong province.
Single layers of carbon atoms, called graphene sheets, are lightweight, strong, electrically semi-conducting -- and notoriously difficult and expensive to make. Now, a Cornell research team has invented a simple way to make graphene electrical devices by growing the graphene directly onto a silicon wafer.
After digital multimeters, oscilloscopes are the second most common test and measurement instrument used today. Within the spectrum of available benchtop, hand-held, and PC-based scopes, different needs can dictate what the best form factor is for one’s applications. Still, today’s scopes continue to surprise with features not previously found in their category...
Nowadays security is the key to whether it is in homeland defence, or security monitoring of parking lots or buildings. Surveillance systems are either passive systems using IR cameras, or active systems based on infra-red light sources, which are invisible for human eye...
The need to increase productivity and energy efficiency is today driving more and more electronic content into industrial applications such as power generation, transmission and distribution (e.g., smart grid), industrial process control and automation, instrumentation, HVAC, and fire and surveillance, just to name a few.
With the holidays approaching, what product or technology is on your wish list?
Aonix, a provider of solutions for safety and mission-critical applications, today announced the release of ObjectAda Real-Time 8.4 for Windows, targeting Intel x86 architecture embedded and real-time systems running the Wind River VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS).
Increasingly, the biggest challenges designers of consumer electronics products face have less to do with performance or feature-richness, and more to do with ease of use and simplicity. This is especially true in entertainment networking, where multiple technologies currently vie for adoption, and consumers have made it clear they want a simple solution, right out of the box.
