Consumers are continuing to look for touch applications with better battery life, faster response time, precise touches, grip suppression, and palm rejection on mobile Internet devices and Netbook screens.
The next-generation touch products must have true multi-touch capability and be able to support unlimited touches. As touchscreens continue to advance, in turn so will the desire for more points of simultaneous interaction; such as stretching, pinching and rotating gestures. Supporting an unlimited number of touches greatly enhances the overall user experience and can drastically change the way users interact with their electronic products. This enables the user to have more applications including gaming, collage play and more.
Fast Response Time:
The beauty of tablets and PC’s is that they allow you to access information from anywhere at anytime. But if the technology inside it is slow, pauses or doesn’t recognize your intentional touches – what’s the point? How fast is fast enough? An ideal response time for larger form factors is under 10 milliseconds. Depending on the screen size, one may want to support up to 20 simultaneous finger touches. This enables a more intuitive user interface for a wide range of applications from web browsing to gaming on a variety of devices.
Low Power: Lower power consumption in the microcontroller and touch solution is key to enabling longer battery in the consumer device. This means less power is consumed by the overall hardware inside the device. Generally, a low-power device for tablet-like devices will consume well below 100 mW.
