Ironwood introduced the SG-SOIC-3000 socket for SOIC. The compact ZIF sockets provide desirable signal integrity, and can be mounted on the small footprint. It needs about 2.5 mm extra space around the chip than the actual chip size. The device has a short signal path of 0.5 mm or 0.75 mm, and an operating temperature is from -35°C to 100°C. For all the new component demos I see each year, particularly those with applications for consumer electronics, I often wonder whether the latest whiz-bang feature that a particular component is intended to deliver for the end-product is really satisfying some sort of demand. In other words, does the end-user have an appetite for that revolutionary new feature?
