Building on the PC8208 and 8209 PHYs for a complete extended-reach HSPA femtocell baseband, picoChip's PC8219E Class 3 femtocell
reference design allows operators to bring femtocell technology to campuses, rural areas or ‘metrozone’ hot-spots. Features include an eight-user capacity, a 2-km range and support for vehicular mobility as well as FAPI and FRMI interfaces. A network-monitoring function allows the femtocell to reconfigure itself to behave like a handset receive chain, synchronizing with a macro-base station nearby.
