CMX138ACML Microcircuits (www.cmlmicro.com) has announced the launch of a new Audio Scrambler and Sub-audio Signalling Processor to it’s family of analogue two-way radio ICs.

The CMX138A, an upgrade based on the hugely successful CMX138 IC, is intended for use in half duplex analogue two-way radios or family radio equipment, particularly suited to enhanced MURS, GMRS, PMR446 and FRS designs. Highly integrated by design, the device provides a user programmable frequency inversion audio scrambler with signal processing functions, CTCSS, DCS and in-band tones, allowing comprehensive voice processing and tone control.

Key enhancements for the CMX138A include: improved limiter functions, enhanced CTCSS and DCS performance, a new input Automatic Gain Control (AGC) function, in-band tone operation enabled down to 288Hz, and improved audio compandor which enhances the performance of compressed signals. These developments are designed to provide even greater levels of tone control and voice processing, making the CMX138A the complete audio solution.

Other important features include an auxiliary ADC channel, auxiliary DAC interface with optional RAMDAC to facilitate transmitter power ramping, auxiliary system clock output and transmit output for single-point-modulation. The CMX138A also includes a crystal clock generator, with buffered output, to provide a common system clock if required.

The CMX138A is available in a small, low-power (3.0V to 3.6V with flexible powersave modes), 28-pin (E1) TSSOP package.

Dungeons and Dragons Dice Gauntlet

The D&D bracer is a fairly quick, fun, nerdy LilyPad project. The final product is a wearable bracer with a display that will randomly generate numbers between 1 and 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20, or 100 in response to arm movement, so it can effectively replace all of the dice in your bag for a D&D session.

Sustainable?
Sustainable?

I'd like some genius to define sustainable. Could we count something that we can keep doing for 100 billion years - beyond the death of the Universe as we currently understand such things - as sustainable? How about a billion years?
