ESD absorberPangolin Laser Systems has introduced what it calls the first electronic component to protect laser diodes against damage from direct and indirect electrostatic discharge (ESD).  Called LASORB, the component is described as an "ESD absorber" that protects laser diodes, photodiodes and LEDs from single, multiple, and repeated ESD events of either positive or negative polarity. It also protects against reverse bias conditions. While Schottky diodes are typically used for this purpose, using LASORB in their place offers protection against both ESD and reverse biasing, the company asserts.

There is no question the overwhelming majority of ‘mechanical’ energy utilized in this country has as its source the output of Heat Engines, i.e. devices that convert stored solar energy in fossil fuels to ‘mechanical work’.
