pushbuttons double display lifeNKK Swiches announced it has doubled the display life of its OLED SmartSwitch pushbutton switches and reduced the devices’ low power consumption by 30 percent. The display has increased to 30,000 hours with 40 percent pixels on at 100 cd/m². For equipment used 24/7, this translates to a display life of greater than three years. According to the company, further increases in the OLED display life can be achieved in many applications where the requirement for candelas per meter squared is reduced, or the equipment usage is less than 24/7. In these cases, a display life of five years or more is now possible. NKK SmartSwitch pushbutton devices feature a traditional SPST pushbutton with a built-in OLED display all in one device. With a footprint the size of a coin, these products are asserted to be the smallest off-the-shelf OLED and LCD switches and displays available in the industry. OLED technology offers full motion video capability, high resolution, fast response time, 180-degree viewing angles, and a color palette of 65,536 colors. The SmartSwitch OLED pushbuttons and displays are emissive devices operated by commands and data supplied via the SPI communications protocol. The switch is capable of 64RGB x 48 pixel resolution.

The D&D bracer is a fairly quick, fun, nerdy LilyPad project. The final product is a wearable bracer with a display that will randomly generate numbers between 1 and 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20, or 100 in response to arm movement, so it can effectively replace all of the dice in your bag for a D&D session.

Sustainable?
Sustainable?

I'd like some genius to define sustainable. Could we count something that we can keep doing for 100 billion years - beyond the death of the Universe as we currently understand such things - as sustainable? How about a billion years?
