high output red LEDsOpto Diode Corporation announced its OD-624L High Output Red LED. The LED has a dominant emission wavelength at 624 nm (typical) and features a narrow beam angle that is appropriate for fluorescence in medical, scientific testing instruments, and forensic applications. The lighting device delivers total power output ranging from 80 mW (minimum) to 170 mW (typical). Under test conditions of lF = 350 mA, the peak emission wavelength is typically 635 nm, and the spectral bandwidth at 50 percent is 40 nm. The high output red LED is offered in a hermetically-sealed TO-5 can with three leads. Under absolute maximum ratings at 25 degrees C, the continuous forward current is 500 mA, with reverse voltage of 10 V. The lead soldering temperature (1/16 inch from the case for 10 seconds) is 260 degrees C, making this LED easy and convenient to install into new and/or existing lighting systems. Thermal parameters for storage and operating temperatures range from -55 degrees C to 100 degrees C, with the maximum junction temperature at 115 degrees C. The high output red OD-624L LEDs are priced at $10.25 each (minimum order: 100 pieces).

Dungeons and Dragons Dice Gauntlet
Dungeons and Dragons Dice Gauntlet

The D&D bracer is a fairly quick, fun, nerdy LilyPad project. The final product is a wearable bracer with a display that will randomly generate numbers between 1 and 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20, or 100 in response to arm movement, so it can effectively replace all of the dice in your bag for a D&D session.

Sustainable?
Sustainable?

I'd like some genius to define sustainable. Could we count something that we can keep doing for 100 billion years - beyond the death of the Universe as we currently understand such things - as sustainable? How about a billion years?
