100 MHz Crystal Oscillator Provides High-speed, Current-steering Logic Output

Ecnmag.com - March 20, 2008

HCSL output crystal oscillatorMaxim Integrated Products introduced the DS4100H 100 MHz, HCSL-output crystal oscillator (XO) for PCI Express applications. Said to be the first XO to provide a high-speed, current-steering logic (HCSL) output, the DS4100H eliminates the need to translate from CMOS, LVDS, or LVPECL formats to HCSL. Manufactured using fundamental AT-cut crystal technology, it integrates a low-noise, PLL-based oscillator designed using the company's SiGe process. The DS4100H is said to be fifty-five percent smaller than SAW-based or third-overtone designs, making it appropriatefor space-constrained, PCIe applications. Available in a small, 5 mm x 3.2 mm package, the DS4100H provides jitter performance of <1 psRMS (12 kHz to 20 MHz) over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range, offering high frequency stability (±39 ppm). Additionally, this XO provides low, ±7 ppm aging over 10 years. The XO eliminates the spurious modes of operation typically found in third-overtone designs. Prices start at $6.50 (1,000-up).
