January 5, 2009 5:23 am | Product Releases | Comments

Having IP56 certification, Cherry Electrical Products’ KS, KG, KT, and KM Series AC/DC rocker switches suit panel-mount applications in which the switches will be exposed to dust and water. The KS devices exhibits a current rating of 16 A at 125 VAC, while the KG, KT, and KM units are rated at 20 A at 125 VAC. The products offer a current rating of 21 A at 14 VDC, UL approval on AC loads, and 0.25” (6.35-mm) quick-connect tab

Temperature Sensors Measure Substrate Diodes

January 5, 2009 5:07 am | Product Releases | Comments

Targeting notebook PCs, servers, and industrial and embedded systems, SMSC’s EMC141x and EMC107x families of temperature sensors measure the temperature of a substrate diode found on GPUs, CPUs, FPGAs, or ASICs. The devices incorporate automatic beta compensation that detects the requirements of a thermal diode and self-configures the measurement attributes. The components have resistance error correction that adjusts

Industrial-Grade Supply Delivers 175 W

December 31, 2008 10:36 am | Product Releases | Comments

Using a resonant topology, the CLC175 single-output open-frame AC/DC power supply from XP Power can deliver up to 175 W. The 3” × 5” × 1.25” device has a power density as high as 9.3 W/in.³ and an efficiency as high as 87 percent. Only 10 cfm of forced airflow is required for full power, and a 12-VDC 0.5-A fan output

Mini-E is Highway Legal Pure Electric Vehicle

December 31, 2008 9:23 am | by by Jason Lomberg, Technical Editor | Blogs | Comments

Hipsters of the world rejoice! Mini has announced the greatest thing since arthouse theater—an electric version of the Mini Cooper. Unveiled at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Mini-E is the first highway legal all-electric vehicle. Amazingly, the Mini-E is heavier than its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart (curb weight of 3,230 vs. 2,546 for the ICE). This will satisfy those who feel greater mass equals greater safety. Despite its added bulk, the Mini-E has even greater front/rear weight balance than the ICE.
