CPS Satisfies Six 4x Ports of 10G Connectivity

A central packet switch (CPS) from IDT purportedly optimizes port count, performance, and power consumption for up to six 4x ports of 10G connectivity. The 80KSW0006 incorporates in-house fourth-generation IDT SerDes and S-RIO core switch technology to address signal integrity and scalability. The new device supports S-RIO packet switching

System-on-Module Uses Freescale i.MX37 MCU

Based on Freescale’s i.MX37 microcontroller, the TRITON-TX37 system-on-module from Direct Insight is a 200-pin SODIMM format PCB that is optimized for low-power media player applications. The 26 mm x 68 mm device operates from a single 3.0 to 5.5v supply and includes 128 MB of mobile DDR SDRAM, 128 MB of NAND Flash, with supporting peripherals for power management and Ethernet.

National Semiconductor Announces Layoffs

Faced with a steep decline in sales, chip maker National Semiconductor Corp. said Wednesday it will eliminate more than one-quarter of its work force, or 1,725 jobs. The company said it will immediately begin trimming 850 positions worldwide in its product, marketing, manufacturing and support businesses. An additional 875 jobs will be lost with the shuttering of facilities in Suzhou, China, and Arlington, Texas, over the next few quarters. National Semiconductor has about 6,500 employees.

Tampa Electric Plans to Build Solar Plant
