Verizon Wireless said Tuesday it will put substantial resources into developing and selling phones that use Google Inc.'s Android software. Verizon Wireless had already said it would sell Android phones, but the announcement suggests that the carrier is positioning these "smart" phones as a main means of competing with Apple Inc.'s iPhone, which is exclusive to AT&T Inc. in the U.S.
Although an increasing interest and use of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) can be observed during the last decade, the standard 3-phase Induction Motor (IM) is still the most widely used electrical motor. The simplest way to start an IM is to connect the motor directly to the 3-phase main supply.
Ask.com hopes to persuade consumers that are fond of discount Web sites to bring their bargain hunts to its search engine. On Tuesday, Ask is rolling out Ask Deals, a service that will let visitors search for online coupons and bargains that it indexes from several dozen popular coupon Web sites, along with retail Web sites, message boards and blogs.
An RF designer’s wish list for an ideal high frequency capacitor would include extremely high temperature stability, a sharp self resonance (high Q) free from harmonics, extremely tight capacitance tolerance, low ESR (equivalent S\series R\resistance), low ESL (equivalent series inductance), complete reproducibility
Dow Chemical Co said on Monday it would begin selling a new rooftop shingle next year that converts sunlight into electricity -- and could generate $5 billion in revenue by 2015 for the company. The new solar shingles can be integrated into rooftops with standard asphalt shingles, Dow said, and will be introduced in 2010 before a wider roll-out in 2011.
Google Inc is partnering with privately held Energy Inc to provide households with free energy management software, bypassing utilities' smart meters and potentially boosting energy efficiency, the company said on its blog on Monday.
With a typical Step Size of 2500 KHz, the CPLL66-3475-3475 PLL/Synthesizer from Crystek operates at 3475 MHz. The PLL/Synthesizer is housed in a 0.6-in. x 0.6-in. x 0.15-in. SMD package, and is programmed using a standard three line interface (Data, Clock and Load Enable). Typical phase noise is -95 dBc/Hz at 10 KHz offset
Young people with an interest in electronics still have a cornucopia of kits to start with. As a youngster I had a crystal radio that picked up several local stations I listened to with a small headphone. You can still buy crystal-radio kits and many cost under $20.
Purportedly 20 times more efficient than competing devices, the AS1001 audio power amplifier IC (from Audium Semiconductor) enables battery-powered amplified speakers to run 3 hours per day for 10 months on a set of 1.5 V batteries. With 100 W peak power output, the amplifier runs on a set of four 'C' batteries.
Providing local control to mitigate the Arc Flash danger in Circuit Breaker operation, the Time Delay Control Switch Relay (TD-CSR) from Electroswitch provides for a manually-initiated time-delay trip or close operation. SCADA operation is not required, and a flashing LED notifies the operator of a pending trip or close operation.
Elma Electronic offers flexible light guides that facilitate a wide range of adaptable panel indicating options. They can be bent in 90-degree or other angles. This allows the LED to be mounted to a PCB while fixed to a panel at a right angle. Available in various lengths, the LED mounting can be
Extending existing designs based on E4.2- and EE5-cores, EPCOS has developed a series of current sense transformers based on EE12.6-cores. Currents up to 40 A can be measured with this series, and owing to their SMD design, these transformers are particularly suitable for compact DC/DC converters. The primary winding is
Americans Elizabeth H. Blackburn, Carol W. Greider and Jack W. Szostak won the 2009 Nobel Prize in medicine on Monday for discovering a key mechanism in the genetic operations of cells, an insight that has inspired new lines of research into cancer. It was the first time two women have been among the winners of the medicine prize.
