Results of the DisplaySearch large-area (10” and larger) TFT LCD survey for Q2'09, as reported in its Quarterly Large-Area TFT LCD Shipment Report, indicate that shipments reached 130 million units, strong growth of 42% Q/Q and 10% Y/Y. Due to the increase in prices, large-area TFT LCD revenues grew 51% Q/Q, but were still down 29% Y/Y, to $15 billion.
One of the hottest trends in power is “conductive ink”—that is, ink that conducts electricity. Thus, we’ve seen the emergence of ultra-thin power solutions such as Fraunhofer Research Institution's silk-screened batteries. One of the variants is printable solar cells, a technology still in its infancy. But the US Air Force, in conjunction with Plextronics, has developed what they purport to be a “significant step forward in printing inexpensive solar cells.”
Anritsu’s MT8855A is said to be the world’s first integrated test set capable of measuring the new generation of products using the Bluetooth Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP), headset profile, and hands-free profile. Providing frequency coverage of
LeCroy’s new line of WaveLink high bandwidth differential solder-in probes provide exceptional rise time performance (20 ps for a 20 GHz probe used with a 20 GHz oscilloscope) with low probe noise and low AC loading at high bandwidth.
The Model MSR165, a high resolution triaxial digital accelerometer mini-datalogger from Saelig, is capable of taking 1,000 acceleration (shock/vibration) measurements per second across all three axes. The datalogger allows for simultaneous temperature, humidity, pressure, light, and analog input voltage recording
Including an integrated crystal oscillator and PLL, the MAX3627 and MAX3629 from Maxim are clock generators with multiple LVDS and LVCMOS outputs. Ideal for Ethernet switches and routers, MAX3627 has 7 LVDS outputs and one LVCMOS output, while the MAX3629 has 5 LVDS outputs and three LVCMOS outputs.
With the ability to carry up to 115 A, the PC 35, a pluggable PCB terminal block from Phoenix Contact, purportedly has the highest current-carrying capacity on the market. The PCB block features standard screw-connection technology and accepts wires up to 2 AWG. It is UL-rated for field wire termination, which is accomplished with a screwdriver.
The PLT Series of Precision Thin Film Resistors from Vishay feature a standard TCR of ± 5 ppm/°C. Tolerances are at ± 0.02 percent over a temperature range of -55°C to 125°C. Other features include: performance of 500 ppm at 70 °C for 10,000 hours, resistance from 250 K to 100 k
The 8-bit U1084A Acqiris PCIe digitizer card from Agilent Technologies includes and on-board field programmable gate array (FPGA) for real-time data processing. Ideal for use in medical imaging, scientific instrumentation, NDT, and validation of mixed-signal semiconductors, the data converter features 4 GS/s sampling rates, 1.5 GHz bandwidth, and incorporates a 15 ps trigger time interpolator.
Covering a frequency range from 380 MHz to 2,700 MHz, the wideband 2-, 3-, and 4-way power dividers part of the Dx-67FN Series from Microlab/FXR are also suitable for 700-MHz, cellular, PCS, UMTS, and 2500-MHz LTE/WiMax bands, allowing use with multi-band antennas.
Lenovo Group, the world's fourth-largest personal computer maker, reported a $16 million quarterly loss Thursday and said it faces pressure from weak global demand and intense competition. The loss for the three months ending June 30, equal to 0.18 cents per share, compared with a $110 million profit a year earlier. Sales fell 17.9 percent from a year earlier to $3.5 billion.
Wisconsin researchers have released a free software tool that could help Web surfers susceptible to certain seizures. An estimated one in 4,000 people has photosensitive epilepsy and could suffer a seizure when exposed to bright colors and rapidly flashing images. The condition gained prominence in 1997 when more than 800 Japanese children were hospitalized after viewing a cartoon.
Operating in a frequency range from 300 MHz to 510 MHz and receiving current of 2.5 mA, the single-chip SX1212 UHF transceiver and SX1213 UHF receiver from Semtech are designed for wireless security and meter reading applications.
The only tweets during the Miami Dolphins scrimmage Saturday will come from the officials' whistles. The Dolphins are at the forefront of an NFL clampdown on Twitter and other social media, with new restrictions imposed on players, reporters and even spectators. Miami's secretive Bill Parcells regime prohibits fans and media at training-camp practices from tweeting, blogging or texting.
The Dispatcher for ASSET InterTech’s ScanWorks platform for embedded instrumentation manages the application of tests and diagnostics to an unlimited number of printed circuit boards in parallel. Circuit boards being tested can be local to the ScanWorks platform or on the other side of the globe.
